Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL)
Below is a list of occupations which have been identified as being in demand in Australia. This list is called the Migration Occupations in Demand List (or MODL). This list was updated on 17 May 2008.
People seeking to migrate to Australia on the basis of their work skills receive points if their nominated occupation is on the MODL list which is current at the time their application is lodged or assessed.
They receive extra points if they have a job offer in their nominated occupation from an organisation that has employed at least 10 people on a full-time basis for the previous two financial years.
Australian Migration Occupations in Demand expanded
Australia's Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has expanded its Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL).
The MODL includes occupations and specializations identified by the Australian Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) that are in short supply in Australia.
The following occupations have been added to the MODL:
* Architect
* Computing Professional Specializing in Sybase
* External Auditor
* Quantity Surveyor
* Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Avionics)
* Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical)
* Locksmith
* Optical Mechanic
* Painter and Decorator
* Furniture Finisher
General Electronic Instrument Tradesperson has been removed from the Migration Occupations in Demand List.
If a nominated occupation is on the MODL either at the time the General Skilled Migration (GSM) application is lodged or when it is assessed, you will be eligible for 'occupation in demand/job offer' points on the GSM points test. You will also receive extra points if you have a job offer from a suitable Australian employer.
After 01 September 2007, applicants will be required to show previous employment of at least 12 months in the nominated occupation that falls under the MODL.
Fast-tracked processing is applied to those who nominate occupations on the MODL
Skilled migration visas (SOL)
Skilled migration visas are one of the best opportunities for skilled workers to live and work in Australia. Under the Australian General Skilled Migration program, skilled migrant and skilled worker applicants can use their qualifications, work experience and language ability to satisfy Australian immigration requirements for a permanent Australia visa.
The General Skilled Migration (GSM) program is for people who are not sponsored by an employer and who have skills in occupations that Australia needs to fill labor shortages. Applicants must be over 18 and under 45 years of age and speak good English. They must also have recent skilled work experience or a recently earned and eligible Australian qualification as well as qualifications for an occupation listed on Australia's Skilled Occupation List (SOL).
The Australian Skilled Occupation List (SOL) is a list of occupations that Australia allows migrants to claim experience and education in for the country's General Skilled Migration program.
